Health City Sports Ambassador Wins Boxing Bout
CAYMAN ISLANDS (March 24, 2017) – Canadian boxing champ Steven “The Piranha” Wilcox, holder of the World Boxing Association-North American Boxing Association (WBA-NABA) super lightweight title, defeated Argentina’s Jorge Luis Rodriguez in a weekend match on Saturday, March 18.
Wilcox was recently named a Sports Ambassador for Health City Cayman Islands.
Proceeds for his upcoming title defense on June 3 in his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario and hosted by Three Lions Promotions will benefit lifesaving surgeries for children at Health City Cayman Islands through the Have a Heart Cayman Islands charity.
On Saturday, Wilcox beat Argentina’s Jorge Luis Rodriguez in a unanimous decision after an eight-round super lightweight contest held at the Powerade Center in Brampton, Ontario.
Wilcox was chosen to represent Health City Cayman Islands following a visit he made to Grand Cayman in January 2017 to participate in the Island Rumble boxing showcase, hosted by reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao.
While in the Cayman Islands, he toured the facility and met with children who were receiving life-saving cardiac surgery with the support of Have a Heart Cayman Islands.
Wilcox also took the opportunity to learn more about the hospital’s expertise in sports medicine, and met with Dr. Niranjan Nagaraja, Senior Orthopedic Surgeon at Health City Cayman Islands, who is skilled in providing minimally invasive procedures to patients with sports injuries.
Health City Cayman Islands has a Canadian office in Wilcox’s hometown base of Hamilton, which along with its board of Canadian Physician Advisors, facilitates Canadian patients receiving healthcare services at Health City Cayman Islands.
