Comprehensive and Fully Integrated Critical Care Unit
The Health City Cayman Islands’ critical care unit is a synchrony of doctors of various specialties, namely, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, pulmonology, internal medicine, anesthesiology, and nephrology. Our comprehensive and fully integrated Critical Care Service provides highly specialized, intensive clinical support and high dependency care for adults and children. We look after patients with a full range of heart conditions among both adults and children, those with serious heart conditions needing cathlab intervention or needing major surgery.
The unit provides 24-hour specialist intensive care coverage in the surgical intensive care unit, coronary care unit, and post-anesthesia care unit. The unit is comprehensively equipped with modern hemodynamic monitors, ventilators, blood gas apparatus, mechanical supports like Intraaortic balloon pump, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and nitric oxide delivery system. We always maintain a 1:1 patient to nurse ratio increasing it to 1:2 based on the criticality of the patient.
The highly specialized treatment we provide combines intensive nursing and the latest medical technology to support our patients’ complex needs. This may include assisted ventilation with life support machines using specialized equipment to support the functions of the kidneys or using pumps to deliver essential drugs and to support the heart and circulation.
All critical care areas can be accessed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so we can respond to cardiac emergencies whenever they occur, and you can be reassured that expert staff is always on hand to offer care, advice, and support.
